5 A.M. Switch Up

5 A.M. Switch Up

Morning Changes

This weekend I thought, “why not wake at 6 instead of 5?” It is the weekend, right? So everyone will sleep in and I can accomplish the same thing.

Boy was I wrong.

First things first, I did not make it to 6. I woke at 530. I started about my normal routine of moving my body, then reflecting.

6 A.M. Saturday

Then I hear, “Mommy”. The two year old is awake. Fine and dandy.

6:30 A.M. Sunday

This time I woke at 5 as normal. I did get my complete power hour in. At 630 the two year old came down, followed by the nine year old at 7. Fine right?

What Happened?

I wonder if I had not been doing this for a few weeks now, if my reaction would have been different.

I did not get upset or flustered my morning was interrupted. I embraced it. I saw the good in it. This will not last forever. You know, children waking up wanting their parents.

I already had a few moments to myself anyway. Sometimes things change.

But get this…

They both fell back asleep. So they came downstairs and went back to sleep.

Perception

This could have gone left really quick. Like I said before, I could have gotten upset and frustrated with them. But why? What would that solve? We would just be up looking at each other cranky.

Maybe it was my willingness to be flexible and welcome the interruptions that made it smoother.
